it's just merely survived
if you're standing outside the fire

There comes a time in each of our lives, where we realize we are living for those around us. We are not doing the things that make us happy, we're living what is expected of us. Because of this, we are merely existing, surviving day to day, and the joys in life are escaping us.
We fail to notice the little things in life that truly revive our spirits. Then life hands us that one extra edge, the ability to actually SEE and FEEL things. Suddenly we notice that the little scrub bush we'd never seen before at all, looks fantastic with the prism of light coming thru it on a setting sun. We notice the stars do actually fall from the sky. The scent of morning after a rain or sound of leaves on the ground is suddenly present. We feel the wind, which for so long was only something that got in the way, but now it cools us, and our spirit soars.
But, we tell ourselves, this way of life I have is safe. I take care of all the people around me, and I do what is expected of me. EVERYBODY is happy in my world. Then it hits ... I'm not ... who am " I "? All around me may be happy, but isn't there someone inside me too ? Don't " I " deserve to feel life ? And at that moment you realize, you are merely surviving, standing outside the fire. And you know that to truly live, to be yourself, to be free, you have to move inside the fire, and take that chance on getting burned, or you will never feel the heat life has to offer you.
You don't have to neglect those around you to be yourself. Just take the time for YOU. Slow down, enjoy the sensations around you, see the little things around you, let yourself feel things. If you aren't happy inside, the ones around you won't enjoy you anyway, and if they can be happy around you when you aren't being true to yourself, they are probably in your life for the wrong reasons. You are the first person who must realize, " I deserve a life, too".
When you see that spark, you feel that heat, don't back away from it. Jump in with both feet and enjoy the feeling, enjoy the flames that will set your spirit on fire. It may make you sweat, but your heart won't grow cold.
